Warner Brothers just can't seem to do a good Superman film to save their lives.

Well, DC keeps pumping out product, too — Jonah Hex, The Losers, RED, etc. It's just that Marvel's product seems to be, on average, a lot better.

Oh, dear lord. Cast a gay and/or British dude as Superman, Kevin Costner as Pa Kent (at least he's not dead, I guess), Diane Lane (age 46) as Ma Kent, a redhead as Lois Lane, and now... General Zod.

What little enthusiasm I had when they announced Snyder as director is eroding fast.

It's a remake of Superman 2, just like the first one was a remake of 1. It, too, will suck.

It's a remake, not a reboot? WTF? Did they learn nothing from the last one.

And Superman II had the worst problems. Story telling and character flaws.

The "rebooted" Supes 3 will probably feature Chris Rock in the role of a computer hacker.

Superman Returns was a sequel to Superman 2, a retcon of 3 and 4. Lois got pregnant during the period Supes was de-powered in 2.

Maybe 4 will have a cameo by Mark Pillow as a Golden Age "Nuclear Man"

Russell Crowe is playing Jor-El. Funny, both his dads played Robin Hood...

Hopefully he won't fall victim to the curse of those actors who have played jor-el--becoming a recluse and gaining 400 pounds. Cheese wheel anyone?

Russell Crowe "played" Robin Hood in the sense that he portrayed him as an actor, but Costner "played" Robin Hood, more like some kids were out "Playing" Robin Hood. The movie "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was more an elaborate Hollywood Robin Hood Camp for Coster's summer vacation.

It's a bit hard to make out, but the costume looks horrible. Very rubbery, the cape goes past his feet. I'm assuming the trunks are on the outside. What's up with that televangelist hair?

I think it's a rule that from here on out costumes have to be either CGI or basketball texture.

His hair though, kinda has a George Reeves vibe to it.

I still think the Spider-man movies would be better served by a more home-made looking costume. It would probably even look creepier and at the very least be consistent with the comics.

Peter Parker is supposed to have limited resources right?

Man, that is one murky, dull-looking promo pic.

If you've seen the shots of Bane and Catwoman from The Dark Knight Rises, those aren't looking too hot either.

Naw, the Bane picture for Batman Rises looks cool. Hathaway's Catwoman is the one that looks bad.

This picture is okay. This Superman looks more intimidating than the skinny guy with soft features they used for Superman Returns.

But it kind of looks like a guy pretending to be Superman. Like one of the guys from Goodfellas, except in shape. The dude that they cast as Thor looks like he could be straight from the comics. I think that's the only guy who in a comic book movie that actually looks like his counterpart.

I thought most of the people in the first X-Men movie looked about right. The only sore thumbs were Toad and Mystique.

I'm seeing a lot of comments on line about the length of his cape. I think this means you won't see him simply standing on the ground I think he's going to be mostly shown flying or floating above the ground while in dialogue mode. Or getting up like he is in that pic.

Anybody familiar with live-action superheroes knows that when Adam West and Burt Ward sat down in the Batmobile, they were wearing capes that barely went past their shoulder blades. Even Brad Bird is smart enough to pick up on the physical realities of dealing with a cape. Snyder directed the Watchmen movie, he should remember Dollar Bill.

I forgot about X-Men.

Even though I picture Magneto looking more like Marlon Brando with white hair and built, the McKellan looked pretty close.

Only one's I didn't think looked straight out the comic was Rogue, Toad of course, and Jean Grey.

None of the Bat guys look like Wayne but atleast Bale had the body type right in the first film.

In Burton's first one, my thought was that Michael Keaton and Billie Dee Williams should have swapped roles. Besides the coloration issues — had BDW gone on to play Two-face the contrast wouldn't have been stark enough between brown and green; BDW wouldn't have needed the black eye makeup that disappeared mysteriously when Keaton whipped off the mask — Williams just naturally had the persona of Bruce Wayne. That's what no one seems to get. Cast for Bruce Wayne, not Batman.

Keaton would have made an interesting Two-Face, but Billy Dee as Batman is one of the best examples of cross-race casting I've ever seen.

New pics of the costume. Ugh. If you thought the Returns one was bad...

I thought this thing was scheduled for 2012? IMDB says 2013. Also, I forgot about Russell Crowe as Jor-El. I guess he's about as fat as Marlon Brando now.

I like the 'S' shield way better than superman returns. And holy cod piece!
Also, the lack of red panties on the outside makes it look drastically different from the original classic look. Which concerns me. However
I'm going to give this new version a shot. Brandon Routth was too lean. Zak Snyder is due for a hit. This superman has the girth to pull it off but haven't seen a Clark Picture yet. I look forward to the first trailer.
If he can nail the special effects and I mean blow me away with cutting edge original take on the flying etc I'll suffice

Well, I already know I hate the costume, so I'm prepared for that. My concern is the portrayal of Clark. All Routh did was an impersonation of Chris Reeve's Clark (for the miniscule amount of time they even used Clark in the three-hour runtime).

I think the problem with Superman Returns is that people just wanted to see Superman flying around, punching things, and shooting lasers from his eyes. The movie they got was far more nuanced and thoughtful than the typical superhero film, and they weren't ready for it.

If you want an all-knowing, all-perfect Superman, then yeah. But Singer's Superman was more human.

The reason Singer's Superman failed was that it was so poorly written. When it starts with Lex Luthor doing the Anna Nicole Smith marry-a-rich-oldie routine, it's kinda hard to bring it online after that.

Some of the direction was good, but the parts of the story that weren't lifted from the first two movies just didn't make any sense.

Granted it WAS poorly written, but being poorly written hasn't stopped movies from being financially successful.

It failed because it wasn't anything we hadn't seen already, it was a remake and a sequel, made decades later at a time when the audiences have seen what it's like to have actual super-villains. And often a new villain each movie. At least when Christopher Nolan did the Jokere AGAIN, it was a new story. Audiences were bored by Kevin Spacey doing a slightly better job than Gene Hackman. It was even the same crime, a big real estate thing.

And like Ang Lee's Hulk, it spent too much time trying to justify it's own existence, all that crap about a five year absence and whether or not we need a superman, was no more interesting than Ang Lee's overly complicated, convoluted Hulk origin.

Yep! I think that's what's so boring about Batman Begins, too. Just accept the ridiculous premise and go from there. All the Hulk movies fail for the same reason. Hulk smashes -- that's what you really need, not why he smashes.

I cannot wait for the first trailer of this movie. I'll bet Bleeding Cool breaks it first...and if he does, I'll be the first to post it here.
