The latest Direct Market sales figures over at icv2.com show May's comic book sales were down 17% from May 2010, continuing a trend where comic sales have been down at least 10 of the last 11 months from the same month the year before.

Why do you think that is? Is the economy finally catching up with the industry? Has the recent wave of event books suceeded in burning through the readers who flocked back to comics after the mid to late 90s implosion? Have the comics over the last year just sucked that much?
