There is some photos and videos from downtown Cleveland, where there is filming going on for the Avengers. About ten minutes from me. It's fun seeing streets you worked on all debris filled...

And I had my first, second-hand report of an Avengers sighting. One of my wife's friends saw what she thought was Samuel Jackson at Parallax* over the weekend. We got a text message from her saying he was there, and my wife and I were debating going downtown, before the second text saying he had left already.

If you get the chance to meet Samuel Jackson, you need to ask him if he's had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.

Try as I might I couldn't remember a single pulp fiction line, all I could think of was that motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane. My wife could remember that whole bible quote from Pulp Fiction.

I bet he loves that.

Did I ever tell you the true story about the time I met the late Leslie Nielsen?

I was at a reception at the Canadian embassy in Washington -- an unlikely setting for me -- and there was Nielsen. Turns out he's a Canadian. He was standing next to the Stanley Cup.

I love Leslie Nielsen! I love "Police Squad," "The Naked Gun," "Airplane," all that silly wonderful stuff.

So I approached him, worked my way into the circle of people around him, grinned, stuck out my hand and said, "Mr. Nielsen, SURELY you're not Canadian!"

And then ... silence.

He stared at me like I was the biggest asshole in the universe, which I possibly was. A half-dozen other people stared at me. My hand was still thrust forward. Nobody was putting anything in it.

Silence.

Holy fuck, that did not go well.

Possibly he had heard that joke before. blush

We were joking in the store with a (male, non-gay) customer about how he wanted to have sex with Ben Affleck. A bearded guy in a ball cap standing behind the customer slammed down the magazine he was reading and stormed out of the store. I'm pretty sure that guy was Ben Affleck.

Giovanni Ribisi came into the store and wanted to rent some movies. I gave him the membership form to fill out, and when he gave it back to me all he put on it was his name. I asked him what was the problem, and he was extremely evasive, saying, "I can't give out any personal information..." So I said, "If it makes you feel any better, I don't have a clue who you are."

I didn't work there during the filming of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, but I did see the surveillance tape of the boss showing off the selection of dildos to Kevin Spacey (dressed in pink bike shorts and yellow tank top).

I got to meet Chris Rock once. Long, looooong story short--the guy was an asshole. I think his problem was that he doesn't like someone who's funnier than him. That someone being me. Of course this was, christ close to 15 years ago?

When we lived in Athens, GA for a few years, I met Michael Stipe (of REM) at a birthday party once. I asked him to pass a piece of cake down the table, and he did! Also, the party featured an arty, avant-garde sort of puppet show, and Stipe was on the phone to somebody before it started, telling them "Get your ass down here! You've gotta see this!" Also, he gave the 3-year-old birthday girl a pretty dress as a gift.

Okay, my celebrity meeting story is totally boring. Sorry!

I was turning a corner at the Chicago Comicon back when it was called the Chicago Comicon, heading to the Kitchen Sink table I believe, and suddenly someone's sticking their hand in my face and telling me to stand back. Right behind him, the members of Aerosmith are walking by and looking over at me.

This would be '93, because I'd seen them perform a few months earlier on the "Get A Grip" tour and the next issue of "Cherry Poptart" had an interview with Steven Tyler.

The notion of rock stars at a comics convention was so incongruous that I pushed it out of my head until a few hours later, talking to someone who was thrilled that he met his idol, Joe fuckin' Perry.

I also spent a few minutes talking to John Entwistle after he and his band played a bar in my town.

*and if knowing someone who knew someone counts, in WWII my grandfather worked in the same office with COL Jimmy Stewart, the actor*

Har! It's possible. Affleck has a "country estate" in suburban Bryan County outside of Savannah, doesn't he?

Double-Har! It says nothing good about my observation skills that I shopped at Home Run Video for three years -- we rented movies there and it was where I bought my comics every Wednesday because I was too lazy to schlep out to that one comics shop on the southside -- and I didn't have any idea the store had this whole porn/sex toys business going on.
