Jim Shooter tells a story about his first encounter with Steve Rude:

Here.

I'm not at all a fan of Jim Shooter, or even a believer that anything he says is entirely true. However, it's interesting that the story of his meeting Steve Rude should involve Rude's apparent disregard for another person's real estate.

Getting along with a neighbor is a two way street.

That being said, even their own version of the story isn't painting them in the best light.

"Thank you to everyone. We were able to make bail, but Steve won't be released until morning. Now we have to pay for the legal counsel so he doesn't end up back doing hard time for trying to keep his sanity. All he wants is to be left alone to create his art, not harassed by people who call the police on our kids because a frisbee ended up in their yard."

If "all he wants is to be left alone" and you don't get along with the neighbor, THEN LEAVE THEM ALONE TOO, stay away from them. Buy your kid a new frisbee.

You were the first to bring it up here in this thread, and you were the first to bring it up ever.

The Shooter story was hilarious.

That retelling by Shooter of his first encounter with 'The Dude' is hilarious. No matter how short his jail stay was, it probably wasn't pleasant. This happened in Maricopa County after all, home of the world's toughest milkman, er sheriff, Joe Arpaio. Meals were probably the famous green bologna.

I don't see where you guys get that Shooter's story is "hilarious." I read it more as sad, if it's true.

Unless you're referring to Shooter's description of Rude's early submissions as stylistically similar to Paul Gulacy's work, except with "Figures out of proportion, misshapen, wonky perspectives." Uh, that *IS* a description of Paul Gulacy's work. When he spends a lot of time on a cover, it's usually okay, but his sequentials are absolutely horrible.
