DC could probably fill several issues with people making fun of the whole concept of continuing "Watchmen". Sooner or later, someone would find something workable in that extended version that they could fill multiple issues with.

Nice find, Teddy. The hypocrisy on display there is pretty painful.

You know, I kinda wonder just how much DC is paying Cooke for this. Is he getting enough to buy his own yacht? Or is he just going to be able to make his boat payments for a few months?

Not that it really matters, I mean what's wrong is wrong. And it does seem like Cooke just plain enjoys playing with established characters, so he probably wouldn't charge extra for this project.

It's just, like, when you hear about some public official who gets busted for corruption, it's somehow more depressing if they were just stealing quarters from the parking meters, rather than bilking the government retirement fund out of millions. I mean, yeah, the worse crimes are more damaging, but if you're going to throw away your integrity, make the temptation actually tempting, rather than some penny-ante garbage. If you're willing to throw away your reputation for practically nothing, then you must not have valued it very highly in the first place.

And no, I don't think making a spin-off comic is as bad as government fraud. Just making another poorly-thought-out analogy, I guess, talking off the top of my head.

OK, this one is a decade old quote from TCJ so it may be a little unfair but I couldn't resist:

DC, in a way, already owns these characters in a non-controversial way.

They got Blue Beetle, Peacemaker, Captain Atom, The Question, Peter Cannon Thunder bolt, and Phantom Lady. BEFORE WATCHMEN...there were THE SENTINELS OF JUSTICE. I would be interested in something like that. Unfortunately all of the revivals of those properties haven't been met with much enthusiasm. Maybe part of the problem is trying to fit Blue Beetle into the same universe as his DC counterpart Batman.

It's going to be weird to see Brian Azzarello doing his take on Alan Moore's take on Steve Ditko's The Question.

Once the prequels have been & gone, then it will be time for the sequels which will become a continuing series. Then each character will get their own continuing series. Then there will be crossovers - Rorschach and The Question, Dr Manhattan and Captain Atom. Then they will be the re-launches, the Elseworld versions.

I can't wait!!!!

I'm hoping that Rorschach gets to fill in for Batman the next time that Bruce Wayne breaks his spine, dies, and/or is sent back in time.

Dude that would be so realistic!

Robin carcasses in alley this morning, tire treads on burst stomachs. Give me smallest finger on Kite Man's hand. I'll produce information. What, are you dense? Are you retarded or something? Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. I am vengeance. I am the night. Hurm. Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb.

Maybe they'll explore Rorschach's closet homosexuality in one of those mini series... I've got my fingers crossed!

In regards to another discussion with the distinguished Red Gumby Gerald, I was thinking about the whole Before Watchmen thing.

Mr. Moore should do his own Before Watchmen. I know, he couldn’t use the characters he created (!), but he could create characters fairly close, especially if he could find a publisher willing to take the issues on.

He should do it for the single purpose of showing DC up. I have no doubt that, while some of these books will be entertaining, not a single one of them will approach even a fraction of the depths and complexities in Moore’s original. These are hired guns paid to come in and service a franchise, for Pete’s sake.

I’m sure that Mr. Moore could find many quality artists willing to work with him, and I think they should deliberately approach the project with the purpose of blowing DC out of the water.

In fact, I think Moore should work the issue into the story itself, satirizing DC and making the point of their creative bankruptcy to a much larger audience.

I think the comic, if it really were a quality product, would sell like crazy. It would provide him with a great platform to express his views on the subject to the world at large. I think, outside of Britain anyway, most people don't have a clue what his issues are, and they are important enough they should be expressed.

That's an excellent idea.

I think that would drum up some real interest, and some real competition. Not just the typical mega event vs other mega event, but Alan Moore coming out of retirement to put out some amazing [superhero?] comics to directly compete against the corporate sequel to one of his previous superhero stories.
