Long rumored and now it's true and really real:

RORSCHACH (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo
MINUTEMEN (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn Cooke
COMEDIAN (6 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: J.G. Jones
DR. MANHATTAN (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artist: Adam Hughes
NITE OWL (4 issues) – Writer: J. Michael Straczynski. Artists: Andy and Joe Kubert
OZYMANDIAS (6 issues) – Writer: Len Wein. Artist: Jae Lee
SILK SPECTRE (4 issues) – Writer: Darwyn Cooke. Artist: Amanda Conner

Love it, hate it or completely indifferent? No matter how you feel these books will sell big time. I do wonder though, if any big name creators were offered books and turned them down for personal/political reasons.

Thoughts?

My thought is that if you count up the number of individual comic panels in all 34 issues of these prequels, it'll still probably be fewer than the number of panels in the 12 issue original. WATCHMEN was not at all cinematic in the way modern comics are and it's fascinating to me how its use of narrative density is the one and only thing from the book that comics has not just refused to mimic but actively rejected.

I'm with Allen, I'll just download it.

I wonder how long it is before a Crisis like event introduces these characters into the regular DCU.

Very good question, and a great opportunity to earn some cool points. These folks, however:

Brian Azzarello — I am indifferent, but will avoid his work in the future.
Lee Bermejo — love his work, unfortunately will have to boycott.
Darwyn Cooke — hated his work in the first place.
J.G. Jones — indifferent, will avoid.
JMS — fully expected him here, generally disliked his many Moore rip-offs already.
Adam Hughes — I generally only save JPG's of his covers, anyway.
Andy and Joe Kubert — no big loss in either one of these.
Len Wein — really? Wow, that's sad.
Jae Lee — last thing I got of his was Sentry. He's good. Sad to have to boycott.
Amanda Conner — indifferent, will boycott.

34 issues seems alot for a Watchmen sequel/prequel. I might have been interested in a 6 issue Minutemen prequel, but another mega event with multiple writers and artist doesn't seem like my cup of tea.
