The last year or so I've been seriously producing a graphic novel. Originally I had intended to first sell it digitally through various websites and then in print. Recently however I'm leaning more toward publishing it first as a (free) web comic and then (hopefully) in print.

I've given it a lot of thought and can see a good number of benefits to going the web comic route. Even though I'm fairly certain this is the way to go, I'd love to know what you fine gents think of this option.

Thanks!

Hey Jimbo, feel free to email at alexanderness63@gmail.com I have a couple friends involved, heavily with webcomics and they could tell you a lot about their experiences.

As for me, I am luddite. I want it on paper. Dammit.

I see a lot of talk on what people think they *can* do, and the webcomic route gets brought up for its viability and relative ease. What I don't see too often is people talking about what they *want* to do. Do you read any webcomics? If no, why do you think anyone else would want to read yours?

Thanks Alex, most appreciated! I prefer paper as well, but as you're no doubt aware, there's some great talent producing online work.

Allen, I read about a dozen web comics, most of which are updated twice a week. The biggest benefit I can see is exposure, in the current climate especially having a free comic online seems like the best way to have my work read, to get my name out there.

Okay, if you're involved in that community already, even if only as a reader, that's great. But too often I hear people saying the web option (usually after getting a quote from a printer) because they only look at the part about it being less expensive.

I understand, I assure you this is definitely a case of what I want over what I can/cannot do. I'd love to do print eventually, but I don't think it's the best option right out of the gate.

Webcomics ain't easy. But I think everyone should try one.

I also think everyone should try a 24 hour comic challenge

Publish an anthology.

Publish their own book.

Try a daily comic for a month.

Etc.

All Noble efforts imo.
