Like I said.

Frank Miller could have directed it and the results would have been the same.

Allen, you can stop now. Further demonstrations of your willful ingnorance are no longer needed by anyone.

Based on what, Frank Miller's stellar success as a director? The only success he's had at the box office was Sin City, and that was down to Robert Rodriguez, not Miller.

If Frank Miller had directed the "Avengers" film it would have been about as successful as the "Batman and Robin" film.

Based on that there was only a very limited set of options on what this movie could have been. There were 964 CGI tinkerers employed on this movie from at least 20 studios. All the video game elements were already defined before Whedon ever showed up. It's like with that fire/rock creature from Lord of the Rings — Peter Jackson said, "I pretty much just told them to make it look cool and they did." Well, that was 90% of this movie. Whedon's only signature input was a script that fell flat most of the time. Miller would have at least had them say "Avengers Assemble."

From the user reviews on IMDB, a gentleman from Belgium says it succinctly:

Quote:
"This movie is another superhero movie with the very same formula. Superheroes need super problems to solve, so that they can shine. Each hero has to face the kind of super problem which is appropriate to his/her individual super powers. They only can defeat the evil threat when they work as a team. But suddenly some social problems between them jeopardize the whole mission to save the humanity from that super threat, as you can guess, and only towards the end they work together again and etc., etc.. A story for retarded eight-year-olds, flavored with as much CGI as your little brain can swallow in the time."

It was nowhere near 90%. I'm surprised, given your obvious wide knowledge of film, that you really think having a different director wouldn't have made that much of a difference to the final product.

As for the "flat script", it would appear you're in the minority in that opinion.

I wouldn't go so far as to call that Belgium fellow a "gentleman", by the way. He finishes up the paragraph by insulting anyone who liked the film. He sounds more like the type of guy who decides everyone who doesn't agree with him is stupid, a far cry from a gentleman.

I'd probably prefer Hunger Games over the Avengers, if I had to choose. There were charges of racism on Twitter when some readers failed to notice Nick Fury was black in the comics.

It's the adoptive children that are the real victims of The Avengers. I wish someone would think of the children.

Certainly, Allen's being a tad disingenuous here. The Hollywood Reporter opines on why The Avengers was such a commercial success. I think it gets it mostly right.
