So, we can now add the inner workings of Hollywood and how directors get hired for big budget projects as yet one more thing you're willfully ignorant about.

I love how anyone who isn't deferential to your tastes is ignorant. Please delineate of what exactly it is that I have demonstrated ignorance. I know, it's just a fun word to type.

Dude, I was in Savannah talking to Raimi and his assistant when he got hired to do Spider-Man. So you can just lay off all the "ignorant" bullshit.

"How do you like your coffee" does not qualify as "talking" in this context, Allen.

Talking about the Evil Dead movies and then selling him a couple hundred dollars of Spider-Man comics (right after he got hired) in the context of a comics shop probably does, however.

I'd disagree. Not that RDJ wasn't great, but that the story was one of the best we've seen in a super-hero flick. Not that it was terribly original, but it was so well constructed.

Mike
We may not be as far apart on this as you'd think. I like the film, it may even be well constructed sure, but you admit it wasn't terribly original. A so-so villain, adequate story some good lines, bur take out the RDJ and Gwyneth Paltrow put in Affleck or Nick Cage and any adequate actress, and it's no better than FF or Daredevil, the construction alone won't save the film, from being a fun but ultimately forgetable movie.

I think they should learn a lesson from what made films like Avengers and Iron Man work, and why films like Hulk, Inc. Hulk, Daredevil FF, FF2 ultimately not work as well as we would all hope, embrace the fun that is Marvel and give us more of it.

Not quite. I've seen enough Whedon to notice his particular voice all through The Avengers. It's Whedon trying to be as crowd pleasing as possible, but it's not at all accurate to cast this film as some sort of generic product of marketing and studio formula.
Mike's right the Avengers had Whedon clichés all over it. Right down to a structurally significant death. Every character had it's point of view and journey. All the humor is earned not gratuitous.

At one point early on in the film when the one area is destroyed, it occurred to me we were watching Whedon reshoot the destruction of Sunnydale from the final BTVS episode, but this time with a adequate FX bedget.

No, Allen, it doesn't. You gained about as much insight into the movie industry from that as I did interviewing Michelle Monaghan for a local charity event.

Seriously. I mean, can you think of one other filmmaker who would have taken the window dressing character of Black Widow in Iron Man II and successfully made her so central to The Avengers?

Whereas people who aren't deferential to your tastes are among other things, willfully deaf, gay (or as you would say "homo") and my favorite so far "hard-headed little bitches."

Just saying.
