Whedon only agreed to direct the film if he could start over with a new script. The studio came to him. He didn't come to them.

What parameters did Whedon's script introduce that were not in and of the expected formula?


I was at least giving him credit for making the hard-nosed agent have a gay fanboy crush on Captain America, but you guys say no.

Again, the large role played by the Black Widow in the movie has got Whedon's individual creative stamp all over it.
