I swear, the Russian interrogation scene was classic Whedon.

Much of what he writes, seem to me to be taking a standard cliché and making it work, or is using other peoples mistakes and showing them what they should have done. I almost wonder if the Russian interrogation scene, besides laying the groundwork for the later interrogations, I wonder if the scene was his answer to the Casino Royal chair torture scene.

And so what if there has been? Does it make the movie bad because they did some testing?

Yes and I'm sure there's a guy who considers himself an expert in real-estate development and hotel management because he shined Donald Trump's shoes one time, and hasn't ever missed an episode of the Apprentice.

No, that's just you, Joe.

Candy has a negative effect on those who eat too much of it. People go see a movie they enjoy...and there's no real downside to that.

Except that they have just participated in the perpetuation glossy emptiness. Why is America morbidly obese and more politically polarized than it has been in over a century? Because Americans are too busy with their CGI bullshit to pay attention.

(besides even getting into the comics-side geopolitics of how this movie came about)

I'd like to hear more about these comics-side geopolitics of which you speak.

Venom is pretty bland character wise. But visually he's great, the mirror universe Spider-man. I liked how Raimi tried to make Brock more sympathetic by having Parker intentionally expose him.

Bane just looks like a juiced Mexican wreslter and was pretty one dimensional in Knightfall. But Bane is atleast known as "breaking" Batman, so he has that reputation already attached to him, he already looks and sounds pretty intimidating in the trailers.

However, that's exactly what made the film OK, passable, but not much more. It's the exact problem with all the Marvel movies: very little individual style, just kind of bland.

I disagree. X-Men had a more SF feel to it.

Raimi's Spider-man seemed closer to the tone of the 60s stories than the Spider-man I grew up with.

I was never much a Thor reader but the film was awesome and had a mythical epic/tragedy quality to it.

Daredevil on the other hand didn't feel anything like the comic's character. And Punisher was too silly. The Lungren film was truer.

Ironman felt like a Downey vehicle.
