anyone seen this yet? here's part 1 of my review. it's pretty negative in a nerdy way. i had to get it out of my system for part 2, which is forthcoming.

Seen it. As summer blockbusters go, it's better than stuff like Battleship. I thought it was pretty clear that Scott either started out with the idea of doing an Alien prequel OR doing a story about the alien origins of life on Earth, the other idea got tossed in at some point and they could never really meld them together.
I also think it's pretty weird how people are reacting to the premise of Prometheus like it's mind-blowing or something. They used the same concept for an episode of Star Trek: TNG for pete's sake.

Saw it last night. I'd rate it an 8, as the execution is pretty good. The plot holes and weak theming hobble the pic though. Definitely NOT a film to wait to buy on DVD, as the small screen and repeat viewings will be annoying.

Poor writing. Damon Lindelof. Goes together like a horse and carriage. Or miscarriage, in this movie's case.

Reading review right now Charles. Very interesting. @Allen Yeah, by the end of the first third of the film it turns into a bad horror film.
*The actual alien monsters didn't seem nearly as interesting as the xenomorphs and face huggers in the original.
*The last alien monster tried too hard in too little time to conncet the film to ALIEN and ALIENS. Plus it also looked inferior to the '79 version
*I too thought it didn't make sense that the cave drawings matched Egyptian illustrations with the Engineers. That means they kept visiting Earth?
*The fact that it took place so far in the future and the scientists were so sure that they were going to meet the Enginners they seemed implausibly way too opitimistic.
Were you guys hoping on it being a direct prequel to Alien or were you hoping it was going to do it's own thing? I was hoping it was going to be it's own story because I feel like the Aliens franchise got ran into the ground. But when I saw the Space Jockey's I thought Ridley was going to do something really different with the Alien Mythos.

I haven't followed the Alien franchise since part 4, but it's still an active property. They're all 20th Century Fox, but maybe they're trying to keep the Alien franchise separate. I need to watch Aliens, Terminator 2 and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest again to see what exactly the Noomi doing pushups was a reference to. I'm thinking it was Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2, oddly enough.

I know that Alien Resurrection was missing Giger's credit and he took issue with it but I don't know to what extent. In my opinion, after ALIENS the xenomorphs strayed farther and farther away from Giger's original, elegant yet terrifying bio-mechanical design. I thought I read that Giger was doing all the set design but apparantly he only did the mural that appears in one scene. I think it was Charlize Theron doing push ups.

It was funny how when anyone called Noomi's character by first name it sounded suspiciously like "Lisbeth."

In the viral ads for the Prometheus characters, "Lisbeth" Shaw is one of her aliases. I'm reading Ebert's review for this film and he just gushes about it, citing his love of SF for his praise, and he gives it 4 stars! I like SF films too, but this film was stupid. These people acted so stupid. Storing the vase in the fridge with all the human blood samples. Everyone was so willing to expose themselves to shit. "Oh, no readings of a contagion, let's just touch everything and breathe the air of these dead engineers who were running away from something that even scared their giant asses."
And they have a frickin alien that Shaw pulled out of herself! Why didn't they examien it??? One guy got infected, they don't know how, one had an alien inside her, one died there, another one died and came back as a zombie with super strength intent on killing people. Why didn't they all say f--- you Weyland, it's us against you and you're android, we're turning this ship around.
Alien was such a better film. Ripley was the voice of reason, following proper protocol, but you could atleast see where Dallas was coming from. When they did questionable things, it was an actual issue that was argued within the film! Here it's like "lets do stupid shit!" "Okay!"
I really though this was going to be some crazy, thought provoking film.
