I just got an email from Two Morrows publishing announcing that the Jack Kirby Collector, is returning to a more regular magazine size with issue #59.

Anyone else get this magazine? I really liked the treasury edition sized format, especially the full pages reprinting Kirby's pencils, or sketches full or nearly full sized. But I hope this doesn't signal it's having financial trouble either, I think it's really important, as long as Kirby's characters are being used still by marvel and DC that a publication like this continues celebrating his contribution to comics. Plus it's a fun magazine.

It could be that Diamond (or surveyed stores) won't carry a reprint collection of the giant-sized Kirbys, which makes the last 20-or-so issues non-reprintable (and sales of collections really means something when you only put out three or four issues a year.)

Or it could be that the collapse of the world economy has made shipping underpriced jumbo nostalgia magazines impossible. Either way, don't expect a price drop on the teenier books.

My understanding wast the reprint editions, (the Collected Jack Kirby Collectors) would stay the same size as they have been in the past, so they would still sit uniformly on bookshelves.

The other thing that occurred to me was that the email did mention color. Some of the other Two-Morrows magazines that were regular size, (Alter Ego and Backissue), that were on regular non-glossy stock, and saddle stitched, switched to glossy, perfect bound, color, formats. Probably for the price breaks. I hope that's all it is.
