Yeah, and Lloyd Bentsen did it in 1988. He knew full well that Mike Dukakis was going to get clobbered and he didn't want to forfeit his U.S. Senate seat.

Pick one office and run for that office. Commit.

With Paul Ryan, there's an additional element of hypocrisy. Ryan is all about the private sector. Fooey on gubmint! Yet Ryan has spent his adult life on Capitol Hill, first as a congressional aide and then as a member of Congress. For himself, he wants the public paycheck, bennies and lovely lifetime pension. For everyone else, it's whatever scraps they can wrest from capitalism.

Ryan doesn't dare drop his House re-election bid to run for vice president. He couldn't bear to live without sucking off the taxpayers. That makes his political philosophy somewhat inconsistent, to say the least.

At least with many of the Democrats -- hey, they love the government.

I'll bet he didn't pick Christie because of his addictive personality. He may be mister funny and witty in public, but his girth is saying that he's one step away from being buried in a piano case size coffin. Which means they would need consider who the speaker of the house would be in order to see that scenario work. Too much to consider with that type of set up.

Politics aint my strong suit but there's my take.

Ryan is a pretty good VP choice for Romney. His conservative credentionals are questioned because it appears he switches up his stances to whatever electorate he's trying to appeal to. But Ryan is very popoular among Republicans and conservatives, one of the reasons being that he was one of the more vocal and well spoken opponents of Healthcare Reform, which to them was a huge mistake.

Not only that, but he's incredibly articulate, and exceptional speaker, and in an age when the content isn't as important as the delivery, that's a valuable quality.

Lawson, did you read the article I linked to? Ryan doesn't get to pick one office. He's already on the ballot for his House seat, and the law does not allow him to back out of it.

Not that I disagree with your point that he's spent most of his life in politics and that's somewhat hypocritical. Although even there, he could say that he's fighting to put himself out of a job, but just hasn't accomplished it yet. Like, I dunno, a cop who hates crime but spends his whole life chasing criminals. Whatever, I don't care to really debate that point, I'm just acknowledging that there are two sides there.

But the issue of running for two offices is a red herring. It's not his choice to make, so it doesn't reflect on him in any way.

Nah, he's part of the system he wants to dismantle. Ryan and the anti-gov crowd would be like cops who hate law-enforcement, or teachers who hate schools.
