For decades and countless pages, he and his work were there, for future generations - family, friends, fans - to build on. His quality and professionalism set the standard high. Bill Clinton put America's economy on a road to recovery after twelve years of disastrous Republican deficit spending. But... y'know... blowjob. Kubert's artwork and personality has absolutely nothing to do with the structure of his family business.

Joe's being a "willing contributor" to a project Mr. Montgomery personally finds objectionable Are you saying that you do not? That would definitely come as a shocker from someone whose career probably owes more to Alan Moore than to Joe Kubert. I'll not reward or respond to your utter contempt (now directed at myself) any further. So I take it we won't be hearing your thoughts on Kubert's willing contribution to the Before Watchmen debacle.

Allen's questions [...] are meant to stir up outrage Not really. I paid a lot of money to attend a comic book college, remember? The Kubert School was one of the options I considered. The warning about the lack of accreditation (once again, pointed out to me by Steve Lieber) was a big factor in my choosing a different school. So the question is why, nearly twenty years later, has the Kubert School still maintained that non-cred status? They're taking federal and state funds. They want to be that much a part of the system, but they don't want to offer their customers (the students) the flexibility of taking their [expensive] earned credits with them to apply towards any further education.

Allen, disgraceful, just outright disgraceful. Taking federal grant and loan moneys in return for no degree? Contributing to Before Watchmen? Yes, I agree.

I'd take Grell in any contest, in any challenge, in any setting. Tell Grell he should wait one more year until he's eligible for Medicare before he decides to try anything.

The Kubert School boasts a long list of famous alumni to prove its claims. Only one in the past ten years according to this page. Wikipedia gives a longer list, but the source is unreferenced so it's unclear if these are graduates or just attendees; and very few dates of attendance are given. I don't see Ernie Chan on either list, so maybe I'm mis-remembering his being an alumnus. Oh, good Lord. Dan Parent is named in the Wiki list. I wonder why he's not on the school's page. Well, actually, no I don't wonder why.

Wow, shjonescrk, way to redeem the thread.
THREE PAGES of "honorariums" to Joe on this board dedicated to actually demeaning, belittling, and demonizing the man, the artist, and the school is about my limit for one day.
You all have fun stewing in whatever this sad, petty bile is that passes for a discussion board. It's an awkward one to be fair. An artist dies whose art I have no particular love for and there's an issue of how to react. For sure, it must be a sad time for his family, friends and colleagues and from what I have read he was a lovely man but the only interaction* I had with the man was with his art (mostly cover pages for DC back in the 70s). Mostly, I found them sloppy and rushed (to my eye) but there were some good ones in there (mainly Sgt. Rock covers). Whilst there have been many posts here and elsewhere praising his art, I have to disagree. Ultimately, his art was not to my taste. Perhaps, I shouldn't have posted, perhaps not. *Not sure if this is the right word.

People posting positive things about a man upon the occasion of his death, does not require a counterpoint response. If you want to criticize the man's work, this is not the place nor the time.

Allen, stop trolling for arguments, you jackass.
Lawson, Allen's questions are not interesting, they are meant to stir up outrage and get everyone mad so he can engage in pointless pissing contests. Don't fall into that trap. You're right allen's crap is, "meant to stir up outrage and get everyone mad so he can engage in pointless pissing contests." But Lawson didn't fall into the trap, he lent credibility to allen's trolling. This is probably an unnecessary distinction, but I think it's worse, he should know better. This isn't the place for it. Anyone responding to allen's crap is falling into the trap, giving him what he wants by arguing with him. Every time he thinks he's pissed someone off, he gets to sit at home and feel important, or powerful or maybe masturbate who knows. The problem is that sometimes it's hard not to respond to his cowardly crap, especially when he posts in memorial threads like these. The little bastard. He takes a memorial thread and then makes it about him. And I just helped. Crap.
