It's being reported online that Carmine Infantino has died at the age of 87.

As an artist, Infantino designed much of the slick Silver Age look at DC Comics, including the new Flash (Barry Allen) and his supporting cast and villains. Later, in the 1960s, he designed the "New Look" Batman and Robin that revived interest in the Bat-franchise and established a new hero, Batgirl.

Rest in Peace, Carmine Infantino. Thanks for all the great comics.

Infantino was the DC Publisher when I first started reading comics. His drawing style was chaotic and usually unattractive to me, and became moreso through the 1980's, but it always seemed like there was some abstractionist genius trying to escape from his panels. I'll always remember him as the happy cigar-chomping Lou Grant looking guy from the editorial pages.
