Referring to a man who has been married twice as someone with "various wives" would leave the rest of us to wonder if the man has multiple wives (i.e. polygamy) divorces and marries on a regular basis, has a string of many wives in his history, or any one of a number of needlessly personal details. Deny it if you like but that's a clear parallel. I will be the first to agree that dragging someone's family, their financial life, or their occupation into these discussions is unnecessary. Just don't sit up on a moral pedestal and act like you're above engaging in that type of behavior when I have pointed out at least one instance where you have.

Are there really that many people who find "How did you meet your wife" to be an insulting question?

You guys are running out of things to bug Paul about, aren't you? Be honest.

Having been married twice, for seven years each time, I have been asked how I met my wife a number of times and I never found the question to be insulting. I myself have asked this question of many people. Not only were none of them ever insulted by the question, quite the opposite. Every single one seemed pleased I asked and pleased to tell the tale. I am clearly missing something here - which isn't suprising given my obvious lack of cognitive abilities.

So you see, I try to leave the li'l liar be, as requested by other posters, but he just wants to be the center of attention.
As usual, he claims that everything about himself is just swell and perfect, but other folks are getting in the way of his perfection.
It's not unlike his explanation of why he reneged on all the debts that he accrued without being able to repay them. He wasn't at fault, it was all those financially foolish relatives that he selflessly had to take care of. He would have taken care of all the debts but it was the fault of the credit card companies demanding that they actually should be paid on some sort of reasonable schedule.
In the eyes of Paul (not unlike the vision of most sociopaths), he's never actually at fault for anything other than being too good and too giving. Inconvenient facts, such as that he took on the debt without a way to repay it and then let others fall prey to his irresponsibility (should any part of the story he told be true), gets twisted into somehow being an act of generosity on his part. His attacks on anyone who winds up being amused or annoyed by Byrne's boorishness (other than himself, of course) is an act of selfless defense against all those folks who dare to read negative connotations into negative actions.
Yes, Paul is a sociopathic no-longer-young man who has made a bit of a mess out of his life, but it's not his fault. It's your fault for noticing this.

Since you're so keen on catering to the audience, I'll stoop to your level for just a sec...
Does anybody else fall for this "tactic"?
-----
Anyway...
Ivan, Ivan, Ivan (using YOUR material, now), You really & truly are a pathetic individual with no backbone whatsoever. You REALLY think I will fall for this? You are fooling yourself...more so than usual at any rate.
As Billy Preston once sang...
"Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'"
And guess what, Ivan? You have nothing. As I always knew from the very beginning...you are a fraud.
L! O! L!
-----
Anyway (again?)...
Since we now got your VERY predictable (and laughable) "rebuttal" to my bankruptcy out of the way, now it's your turn.
You can now do your part. You can man up & confess that you never had anything or you can actually show everyone that you have truth on your side. It sounds pretty simple doesn't it?
Here, I'll refresh what's left of your memory (Readers Digest condensed version)...
IvanJim: "(...and someday the true story of how he met his wife will make for interesting reading, but I'll save that little tale for some other intrepid reporter. All I'm telling y'all is that Paul is an unusual man.)"
Me: "And you think you have some sort of revelation about my personal life? And it's interesting? And it seems your source is elsewhere? Hmmmmm."
IvanJim: "It's not that interesting, Paul, because it's about you and how interesting could that possibly be?"
Aside from the fact that you contradicted yourself as to whether or not certain things are "interesting", it all boils down to you having access to a "little tale".
You brought it up in the first place, right? Do you deny this?
You've dragged this thing almost to death.
It can all end very quickly if you just do your part.
Everyone's counting on you! For once...do the RIGHT thing.
