I received this email just a few minutes ago -- I've known Jay for quite a few years and find it all pretty upsetting:
quote: Date: March 16, 2007 10:20:47 AM EDT Subject: Notification about Jay Kennedy
Rocky Shepard asked me to e-mail a brief statement to you to be issued to the cartooning community via the NCS e-mail list. Thanks so much for your help with this.
King Features has the sad duty to announce that Editor in Chief Jay Kennedy died yesterday in a drowning accident while on vacation in Costa Rica.
We do not have the full details yet, but wanted to be in immediate communication with the cartooning community. We will notify you when funeral arrangements have been completed.

I mostly know Jay Kennedy's name from his 1982 Underground and New Wave Comix Price Guide, which is still the best and most complete listing of underground comix. It really is a significant contribution to comix (and comics) history.

Once again it's sad to see another great cartoonist pass away. In addition to being one of the founders of the Underground Comix movement he was a prominant figure in the syndication business as well.

I'm afraid you're merging Jay Kennedy with Young Lust's Jay Kinney. Two separate people.
