I started this thread, and neither do I want entertainment that is preachy. If I want a sermon, I'll go to church.

Yet, what we DO get, in movies and in comic books, are scripts that reflect a disconnect with the values and culture of mainstream America, a people who are 84% self-identified Christian.

20th Century Fox film corporation has created "Fox Faith" as if Americans of faith were some sort of minority market. They have it backwards. Non-Christian Americans are the tiny minority. Marvel Comics did something similar when it teamed up with Nelson to produce Marvel/Nelsom comics that told Christian stories.

You misunderstand me if you think that in starting this thread I am calling for "preachy Christian stories" to be the mainstream of comics. I am not.

But what we DO have is a plethora of preachy secular stories, stories that reflect a POV inimical to most Americans.

So, speaking of Marvel, maybe Marvel should start a new imprint called "Marvel Secular," to pander to that minority crowd. Marvel might find its comics selling to more American homes if it were to shape its mainstream comics to better reflect the POV and values of mainstream American culture. And it could do that WITHOUT serving up overtly Christian stories, and WITHOUT being preachy about religion or Christian spirituality. Just EXCISE the Joe Staczyniski POV, the pagan and left-wing pamphleteering, and relegate that stuff to a minority ("secular") imprint.

And tell good stories without a pagan POV, without a political POV, without forcing down readers' throats the notion that opposing homosexuality is wicked, without forcing down readers' throats the notion that opposing abortion is wicked, without forcing down readers' throats the idea that casual sex is value-neutral.

How about most comics just presenting good stories that are nOT a metaphor that takes the anti-christ side on some culture war issue?

Simply because you claim that that 84% you keep mentioning are aligned completely on every issue, that they share an unvaried POV, and that mainstream comics contain a POV that is "inimical to most Americans," doesn't make it true. Show us facts and figures, show us the massive outcry. There is no reason for mainstream comics publishers to pander to this mythic bloc of yours when it isn't actively clamoring for this vague, unfounded, immutable POV.

And, your insinuation that left-wing politics are held only by those who are secular or in the minority is baseless.

Also I'm surprised you are mentioning casual sex because in the LOST thread you drooled over Bai Ling, whose character was having casual sex with the character of Jack, yet it didn't seem to bother you there.

There is a disconnect between those who identify as monotheists, even Christians, and those who would fit the description of a Christian as offered by someone who actually attends church and believes the Bible to be more than historical fiction.

Out of those 84% who "self-identify as Christian," how many professed to believe in a literal God? A literal Satan? In every poll that's been conducted, the answers to these questions produce widely varying numbers. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian believes in a literal Devil, or Hell. Not all of them even believe in a literal God!
