BY BRUCE MacINTOSH Today at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Comics saved one of their big announcements for its booth presentation: Simone Bianchi and Warren Ellis will be taking over as the creative team on Astonishing X-Men.
Not too many other details were released at this time, but that should be a winning combination. Bianchi's had the chance to work on many Marvel icons since becoming exclusive to the House of Ideas.
There might be new characters used in the team. The final line up has not been determined yet, because Ellis is waiting to see what happens at the end of Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run. Ellis is committed to delivering 24 issues of the series. Bianchi is on for a minimum of six and a maximum of 12 issues.
Their run will not start until the next big X event of 2008. This run of Astonishing X-Men will be in continuity. Axel Alonso said, "Messiah Complex will change the entire X-Men universe."
Bianchi is so committed to this series that he's getting his hair cut live on stage like one of the X-Men characters. I think it looks like Wolverine.
What do PULSE readers think of this news?

It was pretty cool to see the end result of Simone's "hair cut". The back is obviously an "X" symbol, but the top looks like Wolvy's claws. Simone is an entertaining guy and an amazing... er, astonishing artist.

Yeah, that's a rock solid creative team. It's been a while since Warren Ellis was on a big-league franchise book like this one.
I've been out of the X-crap loop for the past couple of years, aside from Astonishing and a couple of other books. This may draw me back in a little bit.
