What Creepy, Nefarious Horrors Lurk In The Winnebago Graveyard?

by Staff

Miniseries Winnebago Graveyard, written by the great Steve Niles and drawn by the talented Alison Sampson is set to arrive in June, as previously announced at last year’s Image Expo. Niles is known for his horror books, and indeed this series will have a “sinister secret”, but it also appears to be a roadtrip book, and one that will explore character along with lurking mysteries. In face, Image are calling it a “horror-adventure”.

Niles says he’s going to focus in on the fear inherent on being alone and “looking for help in a hellishly scary place”. The series also promises to include “creepy fairgrounds, nefarious characters, seedy conspiracies, towns full of satanists, and a teenager”.

You might guess this from the title and the sound of these teaser elements, but we can confirm that the book will be influenced by 70’s horror films, particularly American ones. Artist Alison Sampson name-checks True Blood and says there will definitely be “ripping off of heads” in the comic.
Yeah, that’s about what I expected when I heard the creative team on this book. We have been warned.
Here’s a look at some wraparound art that Alison Sampson posted around the time of the series announcement:
