IDW Secures License For All-Ages Star Wars Comics, Starts With Star Wars Adventures
by Staff
As announced at the festival of all things Star Wars, Star Wars Celebration, in Orglando, Florida, last Friday afternoon, Disney Licensed Publishing, has granted IDW Publishing the license to generate and publish new Star Wars comics aimed at younger readership. More mature Star Wars comics are being published by Marvel Comics, of course. However, this line geared toward an “all-ages” category will be IDW’s province.
The first new title will be called Star Wars Adventures and arrive in Fall 2017. It will form part of the “Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi” publishing program, according to IDW, which will be releasing content leading up to the new film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, arriving in December 2017. Details about storylines and creative teams haven’t been announced yet.
IDW’s Chief Creative Officer, Chris Ryall, says:
IDW has long sought to offer the next generation of comic book fans ample reading choices, and being able to provide Star Wars comics aimed directly at that audience is a massive thrill. Disney has been a great collaborator with us and we’re very excited to delve into this particular corner of the galaxy.
IDW already had a relationship with Disney, having previously published reprint Star Wars content in Micro Collectors Fun Packs, and Artist’s Editions.
Related to this Star Wars news, IDW also have a new collection of classic Star Wars newspaper strips publishing at the beginning in May.
