The campaign still has 27 days to go, and it’s already tripled its Kickstarter campaign goal, but that’s only mildly surprising with the highly successful creator-owned property Strong Female Protagonist. The first volume was a Kickstarter campaign following a webcomic by Brennan Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag in 2014, and was also picked up for distribution by Top Shelf. You may have seen Ostertag’s other work popping up online, with books coming up from First Second and Scholastic, and Mulligan is a screenwriter who also works in theater.
Now, their comic about superheroes and social injustice is funding a second print volume. And Mulligan and Ostertag say they will be partnering with Top Shelf/IDW again in 2018 for print distribution as well.
This is the story of Alison Green “a middle-class American with super-strength, invincibility, and a crippling sense of social injustice”. In this arc, she investigates a series of murders, encounters a figure from per past, and faces problems in the world that are too big and vast to be solved by simply punching supervillains.
This volume is planned to be over 300 pages, publishing chapter 5 and 6 of the story, and including plenty of bonus content. Enamel pins, totebags, customized books, and cameos are all possible rewards for backing this campaign.
