‘Creativity, Queer People, And Mystical Magic’ Arrive With Moonstruck In July

by Staff

As originally revealed at Image Comics’ Announcement Panel at Emerald City Comic Con, we’re coming up on a summer title that’s bound to capture your imagination–Moonstruck by Lumberjanes co-creator Grace Ellis and talented newcomer Shae Beagle.

Moonstruck will land in July, bringing us a world where fantasy creatures live alongside humans, work normal jobs, and even work as baristas. Julie tries to be incredibly normal with an ordinary job, and normal “almost-girlfriend”, but struggles with werewolf transformations when she gets upset. However, things change when she and her centaur friend Chet find themselves involved in a “magical conspiracy”. The big question is who will watch the coffee shop while they head out to save the world.

Described as “a story of monsters, romance, and magical hijinks”, the first arc of the series also features a “story-within-a-story” illustrated by artist Kate Leth (Patsy Walker A.K.A. Hellcat, Spell on Wheels).

Ellis says about the series:

I’m extremely proud of MOONSTRUCK; it’s definitely the best thing I’ve ever written. And it’s full of things I like: It’s fun, it’s character-driven, it’s got a lot of room for creativity, it’s got queer people—not to mention mystical magic AND close-up card-trick magic. And lots of coffee! So if you like those things—a fun, slice-of-life character story with genre trappings—I imagine you’ll like MOONSTRUCK a whole lot.

Beagle adds:

MOONSTRUCK is already near and dear to me, and I’m so excited to get it out into the world! Even in this world of magic and monsters, all the characters are relatable and lovable in their own ways. MOONSTRUCK is the lighthearted queer romance we’ve all been wishing for, with lots of magical flavor.

Moonstruck #1 will arrive in comic shops on Wednesday, July 19th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, June 26th.
