A New Graphic Biography Of Joan Of Arc Told In Her Own Words Is Currently Funding

by Staff

Recently a crowdfunding campaign was launched to tell a story that’s rarely fully understood despite the fact that it features a known historical figure: Joan of Arc. The original graphic novel, planned to be 124 pages, will be written by Tyler Button and drawn by Ryan Cody, whose work you may know from Doc Unknown on Kickstarter, ComiXology, and now forthcoming from Dark Horse.

This new graphic biography of Joan of Arc is titled: A Flower in a Field of Lions: The Trials of Joan of Arc and tells the story of Joan’s life from her own perspective as she testifies at her own trial. We’ll follow Joan as she leaves her family to navigate brutal military clashes, complicated politics, and “weaponized religion inherent in medieval Europe” while carrying the “literal and metaphorical banner” of God’s favor.

The book will present a life so unusual that we’re still talking about her today and the things Joan accomplished between the age of 16 and 20, when she was executed.
Rewards for backing the campaign include previous historical graphic novels written by Tyler Button, posters, and more. One of the posters cleverly presents Joan of Arc with the iconic phrase “Nevertheless She Persisted”.

The campaign runs until July 1st, 2017.
