The First Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny Short Fills Force Awakens Gap
by Erik Amaya
Disney has released the first of the planned Star Wars: Forces of Destiny short, filling in a deleted moment from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In the finished version of the seventh Star Wars saga film, Rey (Daisy Ridley) begrudgingly agrees to help BB-8. By the next time we see them, she is unwilling to sell him for fifty portions of food. Clearly a change happened along the way. As you can see in the video above, the short takes place in-between those moments of the film and illustrates how Rey and the droid bonded while avoiding a junk-eating monster. While not essential to the film, it is nice to see it realized all the same.
Rey also has a Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind moment which deepens the character’s seemingly preternatural talents.
A charming short in a style different from Star Wars: The Clone Wars or Star Wars: Rebels, “Sands of Jakku” is a wonderful start to the Forces of Destiny series. But now I wonder if they will all be based on deleted scenes.
