Howlingly Good News – Jughead: The Hunger Returns As An Ongoing Series In October
by Hannah Means Shannon
In a move that will leave many fans wickedly delighted, Archie Comics have decided to bring back the world of Jughead: The Hunger that originally debuted as a one-shot, and create an ongoing series from it.
Writer Frank Tieri (The Hangman, Wolverine), who is no stranger to pulp noir, and artists Pat & Tim Kennedy (The Death of Archie) are going deliver a “new wave of madness” in October with Jughead: The Hunger ongoing series.
In this series, during the full moon, Riverdale falls under siege, and after “discovering his dark lineage” in March’s one-shot by Frank Tieri and Michael Walsh, Jughead Jones is going to try to put his past behind him with Betty Cooper: Werewolf Hunter and Archie Andrews “hot on his trail”.
Tieri says:
We purposely left the door open with the one shot, we told you if you made JUGHEAD THE HUNGER a hit we’d make more– and since you more than held up your end of the bargain– here we are. Fans can expect more of everything they loved about the one shot now as we expand our universe– more werewolf Juggie, more bad ass Betty, more conflicted Archie and more twists and turns than you can shake a severed arm at.
We’ve also got a look at some interior linework created for the first issue:
Artists Pat and Tim Kennedy are best known for their work on the Life with Archie series and The Death of Archie event, and they are joined by colorist Matt Herms (The Archies) and letterer Jack Morelli (Afterlife with Archie) on this series.
The new series debuts in comic shops and on digital platforms just in time for Halloween on October 25th, 2017 and features covers by Francesco Francavilla, Robert Hack, and Michael Walsh, as displayed above.
