SDCC ’17: What Attendees Are Being Given As They Enter The Show This Year

by Hannah Means Shannon

I’m sure we’re all familiar with the plastic/vinyl backpack bags that have been a staple of SDCC for many years, and have now spread to other conventions, too. They often feature the latest TV shows and films as a form of advertising.
Well, this year, on top of a remarkably seamless and quick moving badge pick up process for those who haven’t received their passes in the mail (like press), heading upstairs under the “Sails” to get your pass, you’re also handed a neat little folded packet containing several items.
In previous years, you would be helped by a staff member to a bag, a convention guide, and possibly a souvenir book of the show, gathering each in an assembly-line format.
This time, pre-folded bags containing three items made it a little harder to tell what themed bag you would receive, but was certainly efficient, no-fuss, and rather ingenious.

This year, attendees are receiving their bag, a souvenir book, a convention “quick guide” with maps and summaries of programing, and an “events guide” which contains much more of the expanded show that now takes over the city of San Diego with offsite events.
My bag featured Arrow, but friends also received Supergirl bags and Westworld bags, though there were likely several more possibilities, too.
And actually, there was one more bonus: bags had little character pins attached:

Adorable. Well done, SDCC ’17 on having a very smooth and easy pick-up system and a rather clever distribution of bags and guides this year.
