SDCC ’17: Red Sonja Gets Trading Card Treatment In 2018 From Dynamite Entertainment

by James Ferguson

One of my major gateways into the world of comics was Marvel trading cards in the ’90s. They provided a ton of information and some awesome art. This is why I was pleased to see that Dynamite Entertainment has announced a new set of trading cards to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Red Sonja, set for release in 2018. The series will include autograph cards, hand drawn sketch cards, limited edition hand colored cards, puzzle cards, limited edition oversized box topper cards, and more. This sounds like a perfect set for new and old fans alike.

To whet your appetite for the set, Dynamite will be handing out special Promo Preview cards at select comic conventions across the country, announced in advance via the publisher’s social media channels. If you’re not going to a convention this year, don’t worry. Dynamite has you covered. A select amount of cards will be available to order through your local comic shop. The set will retail for $10 and will be solicited in the August 2017 issue of Previews. They’ll be available on October 4th, 2017.

Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment had this to say about the Red Sonja trading card set:

Red Sonja was Dynamite’s second published title, and our first to sell over 200,000 copies, over 240,000 to be exact. With millions of comic books sold world-wide in multiple languages, as an inspiration to hundreds of admirers in the cosplay community, and for so many other reasons, Red Sonja has a wide, well-deserved following with diverse passions. We’re eager to satisfy customer interests by exploring all possible merchandising avenues. Statues, toys, apparel, barware, trading cards – however you want to show your devotion to Red Sonja, Dynamite is happy to accommodate! And for retailers who are eager to supplement their comic book sales, Dynamite continues to develop new product lines to appeal to every customer in their stores.
