Dark Tower Teaser Connects The Cinematic Worlds Of Stephen King

by Erik Amaya

In Sony’s latest teaser for the upcoming The Dark Tower, key locations of other Stephen King film adaptations are tied together as the voice of Roland tells us “there are other worlds.” In fact, he goes out of his way to remind us of some of the most creatively successful and remembered of those movie worlds.

As King fans know, his novels are connected through a multiverse anchored by the Dark Tower itself. Even in books as disparate as The Dead Zone, Hearts in Atlantis and The Eyes of the Dragon all feature characters or fleeting references to King’s fantasy epic. But here, we see films like The Shining and The Shawshank Redemption — films met with critical and/or box office success — tied to The Dark Tower, even if the studios behind those pictures (Warner Bros. in these cases) have nothing to do with Sony’s production of The Dark Tower.
It does make you wonder why there as no mention of The Mist, though.
In the meantime, The Dark Tower finally arrives in theaters on August 4th.
