Listen To The Single And Read The Preview Of Murder Ballads From Z2
by Hannah Means Shannon
As we’ve mentioned on Comicon.com before, Z2 Comics is publishing a graphic novel with accompanying soundtrack called Murder Ballads, featuring the musical work of bluesman Robert Finley and Grammy-Award winner Dan Auerbach and the comic work of writer Gabe Soria and artists Paul Reinwand and Chris Hunt.
The book and soundtrack have been released this week, so Z2 have also let a soundtrack single and a comic preview out into the wild for us to experience.
First up, Z2 Comics has released the single “Bang Bang” from the Murder Ballads original soundtrack, which is only available with the purchase of the graphic novel and will not be sold separately:
Murder Ballads is “a meditation on music, obsession and how far someone will go to see their vision become real”, according to Z2, and tracks the fall and rise of Nate Theodore, an owner of a failing record label who is on a cross-country drive in the “dead of winter”, fleeing his career failure and trying to hold onto his failing marriage. When he “discovers” two African American musical prodigies playing the blues, he encounters a second chance in life.
You may recall that later this fall, Mondo is also going to be releasing a Limited Edition Murder Ballads Original Vinyl Soundtrack and Graphic Novel which will retail for $200, featuring original album cover art by Jon Langford and limited edition prints by Tyler Boss (4 Kids Walk Into A Bank).
Here’s our preview of the comic artwork on the graphic novel, out this week in shops:
