Deadpool’s Ed Skrein To Join Hellboy’s BPRD
by Erik Amaya
The Hellboy reboot’s BPRD has found its Ben Daimio.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool baddie Ed Skrein is in talks to play Major Ben Daimio in Lionsgate’s reboot of Hellboy. The character, a staple of Mike Mignola’s BPRD comics, sat out the previous Hellboy film cycle.
Introduced in BPRD: The Dead, Daimio joined the team after the temporary departures of Abe Sapien and Dr. Kate Corrigan. A military man from the Pentagon, his approach to paranormal research and defense differed from the established norm of the department. Daimio even moved the team’s base from New Jersey to a disused BPRD facility in Colorado. His leadership led to conflicts with Liz Sherman, but he eventually became a trusted member of the team.
Well, trusted until his curse caused him to kill a bunch of agents. Daimio involuntarily turns into a jaguar at night. The condition leaves him without the memories of his human life and saw him attempt to kill Liz on a number of occasions.
It is unclear if Daimio’s affliction will be part of the film, but it could make for a great surprise for those coming fresh to Hellboy with the reboot. As mentioned earlier today, star David Harbour said the film is “not really an origin story movie,” but will contain reference to Hellboy’s early days on Earth. I am hoping he means a scene involving pancakes. Besides Skrein and Harbour, the film will also feature will also feature Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen and American Honey‘s Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan. It is is set for a 2018 release.
