DC’s Titans Casts Its Hawk And Dove

by Erik Amaya

Confirming earlier reports, Hawk and Dove will be joining the live action Titans series.
Deadline reports actor Alan Ritchson will play Hank Hall, aka Hawk, while TVLine broke the news that Friday Night Lights veteran Minka Kelly will play Dawn Granger (Dove).
Created by Steve Ditko and Steve Skeates in 1968, Hank and his brother Don first appeared in DC Comics titles like Showcase, Teen Titans and their own occasional title. Playing on the Vietnam Era political divide, Hank was a militant man of action while Don was more of a pacifist. But when they invoked the names of their superhero personas, each Hall brother was granted fantastic powers on behalf of the Lords Chaos and Order. The two made sporadic comic book appearances until Don’s 1985 death in Crisis on Infinite Earths. The Lords of Order eventually selected Dawn to take his place.
In recent years, the characters became more closely tied to Titans history, becoming original members in the New 52 continuity, making their inclusion in the television series more fitting.
Personally, I was always fond of these characters; even if I discovered them during the 1991 Armageddon 2001 summer crossover event in which Dawn was killed and Hank became the villain Monarch. They had a great look and an interesting concept backing them. Granted, they were never interesting enough for me to hunt back issues of their series or read about the subsequent versions.
In Titans, Blue Lagoon: The Awakening‘s Brenton Thwaites stars as Dick Grayson. Emerging from the shadows, he will “become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes” including Anna Diop as Starfire and Teagan Croft as Raven. Ritchson and Kelly’s parts are said to be recurring, which suggests Hawk and Dove will not be part of the team in the first season, which is set to debut on DC Entertainment’s upcoming streaming service next year.
