Ring In the Holidays With A New Klaus Special From Morrison And Mora

by James Ferguson

Every so often, I remember that Grant Morrison wrote a comic about a warrior Santa Claus and it brings a smile to my face. That’s the beauty of comics right there. Boom! Studios has announced a new chapter of the Santa Claus origin story you didn’t know you wanted with Klaus and the Crisis in Xmasville. Written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Dan Mora, this one-shot is the third story in the series and continues the tradition of a new Klaus release every December, beginning in 2015 with the original series launch.
Klaus and the Crisis in Xmasville begins with an evil alternate dimension Santa who has founded a soda corporation that uses Christmas and holiday cheer as a marketing tactic to build a fortune. Klaus is the only one who can defeat the Pola-Cola Corp. (What a great name!) and the zombie-like Santas in the evil Santa’s control.

Writer Grant Morrison says:

Last year’s Klaus special drew on a lot of traditional Christmas lore from around the world. This year, the influences are more contemporary, and Crisis in Xmasville takes some of its inspiration from the history of soda marketing and Santa.

Artist Dan Mora added:

It is a pleasure to once again be working with Grant Morrison on a new Klaus story. I’ve been waiting for this all year!

Matt Gagnon, Editor-in-Chief of BOOM! Studios said:

Grant and Dan have established a new holiday tradition by delivering a brand-new Klaus story two years running now. And with a new villain being introduced in Klaus and the Crisis in Xmasville, the rogues gallery gets bigger, the mythology of the world expands, and our love for this series continues to reach new heights!

Klaus and the Crisis in Xmasville will feature a main cover by Mora and a variant cover by John Cassaday. No specific release date has been given aside from December 2017.
