Deadly Class Gets Syfy Pilot Order
by Erik Amaya
Syfy is ready to keep extending its comic book reach.
Deadline reports the network has ordered a pilot based on Rick Remender and Wes Craig’s Deadly Class with Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo serving as executive producers.
The Image comic book series focuses on an assassin’s academy filled with the children of mobsters and murderers. The early issues told the tale of Marcus Lopez, a kid from the streets with a lot of issues to address, but expanded to other students as the series continued. The television version will focus on an unnamed “disillusioned teen” recruited into the school. His goal: “maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques, and his own adolescent uncertainties may prove fatal.”
Deadly Class continues the networks new interest in comic book properties. The channel will debut Happy! — based on the title by Grant Morrison and Darrick Robertson — in December. The recently concluded Dark Matter was also based on a Dark Horse comic book by the same name.
