Harakiri Kane – A Comic Creator’s Noir Play In NYC In October & November
by Hannah Means Shannon
Emmy Award-winning artist, comic creator, and writer Dean Haspiel has a new play opening in New York City at The Brick Theater (a venue you might recognize as being friendly to comics in the past with plays inspired by comics), starting on October 28th, and running on a number of dates throughout the month of November.
The play is written by Haspiel (The Quitter, The Red Hook, The Fox, Billy Dogma), and designed and directed by Ian W. Hill, who has worked with Haspiel on dramatic endeavors before.
The play is described as “existential noir” and will be performed by John Amir*, Rolls Andre, Philip Cruise*, Ivanna Cullinan*, Tarik R. Davis, Alex Emanuel*, Lex Friedman, Eli Ganias*, Linus Gelber, Ian W. Hill, Christopher Lee*, Derrick Peterson*, Alyssa Simon*, and Jessica Stoya.

The Brick described the play thus:
Harry Kane is a reluctant angel of death with amnesia who uncovers the truth of his mortal demise and tries to beat death at its own game only to fall in love with its most prized acolyte before choosing whether to live forever as an immortal specter or die, again, an honest man. Meanwhile, a serial killer with an impeccable palate searches for his own form of immortality as both a chef and a murderer.
The play is the NYC stage debut of “noted pornographer”, Stoya.
