While it was unclear if Dick Grayson (Blue Lagoon: The Awakening‘s Brenton Thwaites) would wear his Robin costume going into DC’s upcoming Titans series, the following photo clears up the mystery by giving Grayson the most screen-acurate version of Tim Drake’s costume yet seen in a live action series.
According to Deadline, the costume was designed by Laura Jean Shannon, who also fashioned costumes for Black Lightning and Iron Man, but there’s enough of the Drake costume, first rendered in the 1990s, in this concept to call it a primary influence. The Drake versions is itself a more modern update of Jerry Robinson and Bob Kane’s 1939 costume — the infamous short pants version Dick wore for decades before becoming Nightwing. It remains to be seen if this version of the character will also discard his Robin identity for the blue trapeze artist look.
One thing we do know is that Thwaites’s Grayson will assemble a new team of young heroes including Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven and Ryan Potter as Beast Boy. Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly will also appear as superhero duo Hawk and Dove.
The series is expected to debut on the DC-branded streaming service from Warner Bros. in 2018.
