J.K. Rowling Comments On Johnny Depp Casting In Fantastic Beasts 2
by Christine Marie Attardo
Fans of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series have been up and down about the casting of Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. Last year, the actor was accused of domestic abuse during his marriage to actress Amber Heard. The question of whether or not it would be appropriate to re-cast Depp in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald continued to pop up all over in the Harry Potter community. After much time, J.K. Rowling commented on the issue.

Here’s a bit of what she said:
When Johnny Depp was cast as Grindelwald, I thought he’d be wonderful in the role. However, around the time of filming his cameo in the first movie, stories had appeared in the press that deeply concerned me and everyone most closely involved in the franchise.
She later continues to defend the casting choice saying she is “genuinely happy” to have Depp keep the roll. (Read her full statement here.)
As a fan of Johnny Depp, of course I was upset to hear the report when it came out. However, I am with Rowling on this one. I think he will be great in the role and look forward to seeing how the series will unfold overall.
What do you think? Are you happy about Johnny Depp keeping his roll as Grindelwald?
