Get Better Acquainted With The Oasis In New Ready Player One Trailer

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new trailer for Ready Player One, the upcoming Steven Spielberg film based on the novel by Ernest Cline. And unlike the previous trailers, it offers the clearest explanation of the Oasis — an endless digital world within a depleted Earth — and its founder’s Easter Egg. The lucky person who finds it gets mad loot of the dollar variety and control of the Oasis itself.
I have to be honest, I am of two minds about this movie. On the one hand, I did not enjoy the book. Despite it featuring so many of my favorite things, it just lacked some ineffable quality for me. On the other, Spielberg put a Gundam in the movie. It looks interesting and perhaps screenwriter Zak Penn smoothed over the book’s rougher elements. Also, Tye Sheridan goes a long way toward making protagonist Wade Watts palatable, a thing Cline fails to make happen in the novel.
Maybe my reaction to the film will be “pleasant surprise” when it opens on March 30th, 2018.
