Marvel and comiXology announced back in October 2017 that one of the new exclusive “Originals” comics that the digital platform would be debuting would feature T’Challa and the world of Wakanda in Black Panther: Long Live the King.
This week, the new comic arrived on comiXology for readers, and will be continuing as a 6 issue bi-weekly series.
Written by Nnedi Okorafor, winner of the World Fantasy, Hugo, and Nebula Awards (Binti, Who Fears Death), and illustrated by Andre Araujo (Spidey, The Wicked + Divine), Long Live the King is set to explore new features of that storytelling landscape while focusing in on character development for T’Challa as well.
Nnedi Okorafor says:
I had a lot of questions about Wakanda, so I brought the lens deep into it. You’ll see the Black Panther interacting with tech-hacking village kids, vibranium-affected wildlife, and off-grid communities in Wakanda known as “mute zones”. Not only is this a deeply personal story about T’Challa, you’ll also see a side of the African country of Wakanda that no one’s seen before. Oh and there’s a mysterious monster in the countryside causing problems for everyone.
The new comic is set in the world of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther run but focuses on T’Challa’s attempts to rebuild his homeland in the wake of revolution as well as helping his people face a “massive monster” who is “tearing through the country”.
This past spring, Marvel Comics joined comiXology Unlimited, giving fans access to over 10,000 titles as part of comiXology Unlimited membership.
