The Gifted Renewed For A Second Season On FOX
by Erik Amaya
The struggle between mutants and humans will continue on FOX as word comes that The Gifted has been renewed for a second season.
Starring Amy Acker and Stephen Moyer as the (mostly) human parents of two exceptionally powerful mutants, the show hit the ground running with an impressive opening episode. Over the course of the eleven episodes to date, the show quickly became the most X-Men-like live action project despite the stated absence of the mutant group, its costumes, and marquee villains. Instead, the show created a following for mid-tier characters like Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Polaris (Emma Dumont) and the villainous Dr. Campbell (Garret Dillahunt). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series was “broadcast’s No. 3 new drama of the 2017-18 broadcast season, averaging 8.3 million total viewers.”
Emerging last year as FOX’s attempt to develop a series around The Hellfire Club faltered, the show also incorporated that concept in its most recent episodes, revealing telepath Esme (Skyler Samuels) to be part of the Stepford Cuckoos and working toward the re-establishment of the Club by getting Polaris and the Strucker children (Natalie Alyn Lynd and Percy Hynes White) to join its ranks.
The will take a one week break next week, but return with a two-part season finale as the network gets more and more comfortable with short order series like The Gifted, The Orville and The Exorcist.
The Gifted airs Mondays on FOX.
