A Blue Brainiac 5 And Black Legionnaire Uniforms For Supergirl
by Erik Amaya
The first photo of Jesse Rath’s Brainiac 5 has emerged and … he’s blue.
The image comes from the Discussing Film Twitter account which also posted a photo of Brainy, Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Imra Ardeen (Amy Jackson) in very uniform Legionnaire uniforms.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of Brainy switching pigment even if I get the reasoning. Green makeup almost always looks strange on television, which is why Star Trek‘s Mr. Spock only has a green sheen to suggest his alien blood instead of something more pronounced. I suppose they also want to differentiate Coluans from Green Martians. But one cool thing here is the three dot Brainiac motif on his forehead. It first appeared during the second Legion timeline when Brainy encountered a time anomaly and became Brainiac 5.1. It’s a cool design feature, even if it’s a little weird with the addition of light-up dots.
On the same front, I get why the Legionnaires are not in their traditional color schemes; a look that is difficult to pull off in live action, as the Legion’s appearance on Smallville illustrated. Nonetheless, the design changes are tough for an old Legion fan like me to accept. I’m sure once I see Brainy and the team in action, I’ll be ready to embrace them.
At least … I’m hoping.
Supergirl returns January 15th on The CW.
