DeWanda Wise Joins Captain Marvel

It seems Marvel Studios may be trying to pack its upcoming Captain Marvel with all of their Captain Marvels.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, She’s Gotta Have It actor DeWanda Wise has join the cast of the film in an undisclosed supporting role. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, the current and most prominent character to assume the title of “Captain Marvel.” Jude Law will also appear in the film as Mar-Vell, the comic book publisher’s first Captain Marvel when it noticed Fawcett and DC Comics never renewed the trademark to the original Captain Marvel; a character now known as “Shazam.” But many suspect Wise will play a third character known as Captain Marvel.
In between Mar-Vell and Danvers, there have been a number of Captain Marvels. The first was Monica Rambeau, a woman from New Orleans who manifest light-absorption powers after being exposed to extra-dimensional energy. First appearing in 1982, Monica took the name of Captain Marvel around the time of Mar-Vell’s death in the 1982 graphic novel The Death of Captain Marvel.
Rambeau would continue on to become the chairman of the Avengers and adopt new identities like Photon and Pulsar as others eventually claimed the mantle of Captain Marvel. When Carol Danvers finally took the name for herself — after a long career as Ms. Marvel — Rambeau was still an active superhero and teased Danvers about their shared history with the name.
Of course, its always possible that Wise is not playing Rambeau, but why not throw a third Captain Marvel into the film? In fact, why not add the other four Captain Marvels as well.
Captain Marvel also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the primary antagonist. It’s scheduled for release on March 8th, 2019.
