The Tick Gets A Second Season At Amazon
by Erik Amaya
Ahead of the series’s return next month, Amazon has announced The Tick will get a second season 2019.
The series stars Peter Serafinowicz as the seemingly unstable superhero while Griffin Newman plays his reluctant cohort Arthur. Reframing The Tick for a streaming series platform, creator Ben Edlund revised characters and ideas to present Arthur as a man struggling with his own mental issues when he meets the Tick. After that meeting, Arthur is thrust into a world of murderous antiheroes, Dangerboats and the legacy of The Terror (Jackie Earle Haley); the evil mastermind who killed Arthur’s father right in front of him when he was a child. Valorie Curry also stars as Arthur’s sister Dot, who tries her best to keep Arthur safe, even if it means joining the superhero community herself.
According to a press release (via Entertainment Weekly), the Tick offered a few comments on the renewal: “You feel it too, don’t you? Destiny’s warm hand in the small of your back, pushing, pushing. She’s on a roll.” Edlund, meanwhile, added, “I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller.”
When the first season resumes next month, Arthur will come face-to-face with his greatest fear: The Terror himself. Presumably, he’ll be defeated while the Tick and Arthur get ready to defend the City from another dastardly foe.
The Tick returns February 23rd.
