Exclusive: Boom! Studios Will Publish Giant Days Rarities By John Allison In ‘Early Registration’
by Hannah Means Shannon
We here at Comicon.com are particularly excited to make this announcement since John Allison was chosen as one of our Best Comic Writers of 2017 for his work on Giant Days:
Boom! Studios will be publishing a very special volume of collected stories from the inception of the Eisner-nominated Giant Days series both written and drawn by creator John Allison.
Previously little-known stories will reveal the origin of Daisy, Esther and Susan’s friendship, and see them take part in “orientation, getting-to-know-you-exercises”, encounter a secret society devoted to Black Metal, among other adventures, all written and illustrated by creator John Allison (Bad Machinery, Scary Go Round).
John Allison explains:
The three self-published Giant Days comics are very special to me so I’m thrilled that BOOM! Studios putting them out in this collected edition. Though Esther had appeared before in my webcomics, these were the first appearances of Susan, Daisy and Ed Gemmell, and they seemed to hit the page fully formed. The stories in Early Registration are as interesting to me for the directions I decided not to go in the BOOM! Studios series – crazy battles, yogic flying, demonic presences – as all the things that laid the groundwork for what came a few years later. They’ve always felt like part of the whole to me so I can’t wait for more people to be able to read them.
Giant Days: Early Registration will feature a brand new cover by Allison and will appear under the Boom! Box imprint.
Shannon Watters comments:
Giant Days has been one of the projects closest to my heart since John brought the girls to me with these self-published comics. Seeing the early days of these girls is an incredible treat whether you’re new to the world of Giant Days or, like me, you’ve read every issue so many times over you’ve lost count.
Print copies of Giant Days: Early Registration will be available in December 2018 in comic shops and online. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the Boom! Studios app.
