Marvel Rising Will Get A Free Zero Issue Comic With Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, America & More!

by Hannah Means Shannon

We previously announced the new multi-media platform Marvel Rising, that would be featuring a number of female Marvel heroes in an animated series. Marvel have now announced that a comic will be produced featuring the same team as a zero issue.
Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, America, Inferno and Patriot will be teaming up for a “comic book mini event” kicking off this Spring in a special free zero issue.
The all-new story begins when Doreen Green and Kamala Khan take on a Marvel Universe mission, arriving shortly before Free Comic Book Day in April 2018.

Marvel says that the “two heroes will meet for the first time in a twist of fate, discovering each other’s secret identities in a classic superhero first meeting story”.
The zero issue will feature art by Marco Failla (Ms. Marvel) and writing by Devin Grayson (Power Pack, Ghost Rider), who will be joined for future stories by Ms. Marvel writer G. Willow Wilson and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl writer Ryan North.
Retailers will receiving free copies of Marvel Rising #0 in April. Then, in June 2018 the story is slated to continue with a tale that launches with a special issue tied to a Father’s Day event in local comic shops.
Sana Amanat, VP of Content Development, explains:

Marvel Rising is a celebration of the awesome breakout heroes of the Marvel Universe. The animated stories build upon the great comic books these characters were born in, so we knew a Marvel Rising comic was the perfect place to tell a story fans have been waiting for! It’s about time Kamala and Doreen became super hero besties.

Marvel Rising is a multi-platform franchise launching in 2018 and this comic book mini-event precedes Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, which will debut later this year and feature six four-minute digital shorts followed by an animated feature.
