Deadline reports that actor John Magaro will join the ensemble cast of Netflix’s Umbrella Academy.
Based on the comic book by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, the series follows the lives of a dysfunctional family of superheroes. Though estranged for many years, they come together to solve the death of their father and discover the whereabouts of a long-missing sibling. They also confronted a number of personal issues along the way. Ellen Page plays Vanya, the only member of the family lacking for super skills. Described as a “meek and insecure wallflower” in an earlier report, she struggles to find a place in a family of super geniuses, space-farers, vigilantes and the like. Tom Hopper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, David Castaneda, Robert Sheehan and Aidan Gallagher round out the family.
Magaro will play Leonard Peabody, described as an “average joe” who takes music lesson’s from Vanya. The two eventually begin a romance even as forces conspire to bring her back into the fold of her disapproving family.
Other recent additions to the cast include Cameron Britton, Colm Feore, Adam Godley, Ashley Madekwe and Mary J. Blige. The series is expected to debut within the next year.
