Jessica Jones’ Krysten Ritter Doubts A Second Season Of Defenders Will Ever Materialize
by Erik Amaya
Say what you will about The Defenders and its Hand-heavy plot, but the main casts of Netflix’s four Marvel television — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist — got along well enough. In fact, interactions like the ones between Luke and Danny and Misty and Colleen were highlights. And any time Jessica made fun of Matt Murdoch’s costume or Danny’s mystic craziness was worth the investment of time in the 8-episode series.
But Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter recently told Vulture a second meeting of the four initial series in another Defenders story is unlikely. “I don’t think we are doing it again.” she said. “It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would.” Considering the almost instant renewal of the other Marvel shows on the platform, many assumed The Defenders might become a bi-annual thing. Instead, further seasons of the separate shows and The Punisher have been ordered. Additionally, Jones and Colter will team up again in June’s second season of Luke Cage, which will presumably spend a little time setting them up as the Heroes for Hire. Which, come to think of it, would be a fine replacement for The Defenders.
For Ritter’s part, she said she enjoyed making Defenders and working with the other leads, but her heart is in Jessica Jones.
Jessica Jones returns to Netflix tomorrow.
