Cave Con Offers a True Comic Con Experience
Cave Con, a NEW comic book convention, will be held in Springfield on September 29 and 30th, 2018. The convention will feature dozens of comic book creator guests; numerous comic book, toy, and collectable vendors; an artist’s alley with comic creators, both local and from around the nation; cosplayers, a cosplay contest; and much more! The event will be held at the University Plaza Convention Center.
As long-time fans of comic books, toys, pop culture, horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, the promoters wanted to bring the best comic con experience to the area. The convention is being organized by Josh Roberts, owner of Springfield’s premier comic book store, The Comic Cave. Bringing an event like this to the Queen City has long been a dream for Roberts.
I have always thought that Springfield could support a good sized, traditional comic book convention,” said Roberts. “Our goal with Cave Con is to present a convention that reminds all of us comic book veterans of the cons of old, with stacks of books, collectibles, and deals to be had, as well as showing newer collectors what a real comic convention should look like! This idea has been simmering in my brain for quite some time, and now I am excited to share it with Springfield and everyone who attends!
Assisting Roberts in organizing the convention is local comic book creator Cullen Bunn, who has written such comic book series as Harrow County, The Sixth Gun, Regression, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, and Uncanny X-Men, among others. Bunn has lived in the Springfield area for a couple of years and is a regular customer of the Comic Cave.
Bunn says:
I’ve known Josh for many years and he’s been planning a convention like this for as long as I’ve known him. When he told me that 2018 would be the inaugural year, I asked if I could get in on the ground floor. There are so many terrific comic book fans in Springfield and the surrounding areas, and I wanted to be part of bringing them an amazing comic book experience. This is just the beginning. We’re already talking about next year’s convention! We anticipate a very successful event, and we’ll be expanding the convention in some dramatic ways as time goes on!
Cave Con will feature exhibitors catering to a wide-spectrum of fandom interests including comic books, magazines, toys, movies, artwork, sketches, cosplay, and much more. A roster of comic industry professionals and publishers will be on hand for attendees to meet and greet.
The confirmed guest list includes:
Steve Niles, Writer of 30 Days of Night

This will be an exciting event for the whole family. Attendees can start or add to their comic collection with new issues and back issues, have comic books autographed, commission original artwork, and take photos with their favorite cosplayers. Many vendors will be purchasing comics and collectables as well, so attendees with old comics in the attic can bring them in to see if they have treasures gathering dust. Door prizes will be given out throughout the day!
