Lashana Lynch In Talks To Take Over DeWanda Wise’s Captain Marvel Role

The Captain Marvel cast vacancy may already be filled.
Deadline reports Lashana Lynch is in talks to replace DeWanda Wise in the film. The part, curiously, is still undisclosed. But many assume the role is that of Monica Rambeau, the second Marvel character to go by the name “Captain Marvel.”
Late yesterday, news of Wise’s departure broke. According to reports, the production schedule conflicted with her commitments to the Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It, which will begin shooting its second season shortly. Captain Marvel, meanwhile, is currently in production with photos of star Brie Larson in a prototype version of the costume already surfacing online. Since we do not know the size of the role, it is difficult to ascertain how important Wise (or now Lynch) was to the film. The plot concerns itself with Carol Danvers (Larson) obtaining powers sometime in the 1990s and finding her way into a Kree conflict in deep space. That doesn’t leave a lot of room for a “Team Marvel” to join her in the episode space battles teased at Comic-Con International: San Diego last July.
Meanwhile, Marvel Comic’s first Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell, will be played by Jude Law in the film.
Captain Marvel also stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the primary antagonist. It is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
